The 33 year old suffered the injury during the Olympic Games marathon in Beijing last month where she took a tumble during the race, but still went on to finish 26th in 2:33:12. The fracture was first diagnosed on her return to the UK after the Games.
As a consequence of the injury, Yelling has been unable to put in the necessary preparation for Rio and has taken the decision to withdraw. The remaining representatives for the GB & NI Team are Michelle Ross-Cope (City of Stoke) and Wendy Nicholls (Cirencester AC) for the event which takes place on Sunday 12 October.
