World No1 Nicol David Re-Signs To Prince For Three Years

Hailed in Malaysia as the country's most successful international sports star, 24-year-old David has already enjoyed a remarkable career. As a youngster, Nicol became the first player to win the world junior squash title twice - and, after first signing to Prince just over two years ago, began an unprecedented run in which she competed in 23 WISPA World Tour events, and reached the finals on all but two occasions!

Nicol David - who this year built up a 50-match unbeaten run which included two World Open titles - completes the year as world number one, thus extending her unbroken run at the top of the world rankings to 17 months, a longer run than any other player this decade.

"We are delighted that Nicol has chosen to extend her association with Prince for a further three years," said the brand's International Player Promotions Manager Andy Bunting.

"She is not only a great ambassador for Prince, but a wonderful ambassador for the sport - she is so focussed and so committed," Bunting continued. "Nicol is the ideal role model for youngsters to aspire to.

"It is the mark of a true champion that, when she was beaten recently in the World Open in Madrid, she came back even stronger to win the next two tournaments in style - even beating her successor as world champion in the process.

"Nicol is an awesome competitor - and off-court is a real delight and most generous with her time. She's a great advert for the game."

David rounded off the year in fine style by winning two of the biggest Tour titles of 2007, in Doha and Hong Kong.

After beating Pan American Games champion Natalie Grainger in the final of the Qatar Classic in Doha, David underlined her status as world number one when she carved out a 9-3, 9-5, 10-8 victory over Australian rival Natalie Grinham, the world No2, in the climax of the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Open - thereby recording a hat-trick of successive major titles in Hong Kong.

"It's just nice at the moment to be getting the results again," said David after the Hong Kong triumph which marked her 24th Tour title. "I've felt good all this week and last, and I just went in today to play my best. This is my last tournament of the year so I went in hoping for a good finish, especially after winning in Qatar last week."

The Hong Kong trophy success brings to eight the number of Tour titles David has won this year - more than in any other year.

Nicol David has achieved her success since October 2005 using the Prince O3 Tour racquet.
