The squad to represent Netherlands , current World and Olympic Champions , at Highfields, Nottingham , 10th -18th July for the Samsung Hockey Women’s Champions Trophy has been announced by Coach Herman Kruis at the end of the very recent Rabo Trophy Tournament.
Kruis , perhaps surprisingly will leave out four players from the full squad of 22 (5) Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel, (SCHC) (Forward) ; (3) Renske van Geel (Laren) (Midfield) ; Claire Verhage (HC Rotterdam) (defender) and goal keeper Inge Vermeulen (SCHC).
They will , we learn, be back in the enlarged team for the BDO FIH World Cup, in Rosario, Argentina from 29 August-11 September 2010. Kruis’s squad has a backbone of very experienced players , half of whom are very familiar faces on the world stage; players who were in the winning team in the 2006 Samsung World Cup in Madrid supported by flare players recruited from the highly competitive Hoofdklasse League.
There are debuts for (9) Michelle Van der Pol (Kampong) (midfield) ,Eva de Goede (Kampong) (midfield) and Joyce Sombroek (Laren) Goal Keeper. Australia ,their old rivals from down under will not be in terms of success in this particular contest, honours are split between Australia and the “Oranje” with OZ having the edge.
