A Stockport father and daughter have reached the skies by setting new
kitesurfing records. With one round still to go of the British Freestyle
Championships, ExPix Team Rider and current 2 x British Freestyle Champion,
Hannah Whiteley and Dad Pete, current 4 x Senior Men's British Freestyle
Champion, have already earned enough points in Round 5 of the British
Kitesurfing Championships at Ayr this weekend to retain their respective
titles.
And as if that wasn't enough, the dynamic duo has set new kitesurfing
records; Hannah is the first woman ever to retain the title in 3 consecutive
years, whilst Pete is the only person ever to win any British title in 5
consecutive years.
Hannah said, "I'm so relieved and very, very happy. It's what I've been
working for all year and I've finally done it. As the year went on it became
obvious that there was a chance for my Dad and I to retain our titles but to
manage it with one round still to go is just fantastic!
Dad Pete said, "I can't believe it! As a family we've always participated in
sport, it's a good way of doing things together but I never expected this.
You tend to 'lose' your children when they reach their teenage years as they
become less interested in family activities but that's not the case for us.
It's not often that as a father you still have something in common with your
19 year old daughter but we're very lucky that we share the same hobbies."
All round sports enthusiast, Hannah, has a good future ahead of her;
retaining the title will make a difference to sponsorship opportunities and
open things up for her next year.
Hannah said, "There's so much more I want to do and hopefully now I will get
the chance to push myself even further. My sponsors have been amazing and
once again I have to say a huge thank you to ExPix, Wainman, Chiemsee,
Prolimt, and Kititright for all their support.
The final round of the British Championships will be held in Blackpool in
October.
