It's quarter-finals day at the AEGON International and the last eight players in the women’s singles event will be vying for a place in the semi-finals with four mouth-watering matches scheduled.

Top seed Vera Zvonareva, fresh from her victory over Serena Williams, meets Sam Stosur, the Australian seventh seed who is yet to drop a set. Also yet to drop a set is the Belarusian third seed, Victoria Azarenka, who saw off Britain’s Elena Baltacha yesterday, and she takes on French sixth seed Marion Bartoli.

In the bottom half of the draw Petra Kvitova, the world No.8, is playing Agnieszka Radwanska who shocked fourth seed Francesca Schiavone yesterday. Also in action is Venus Williams, who has beaten Petkovic and Ivanovic in her first two matches, taking on AEGON Classic runner-up Daniela Hantuchova.

The men’s draw will see some second round matches completed after rain suspended play early yesterday and then the quarter-finals will take place featuring Igor Kunitsyn of Russia against Julien Benneteau of France. There will also be men’s and women’s doubles matches across the outside courts.

Today will also see the start of the Maureen Connolly Challenge Trophy. Inaugurated in 1973, the trophy is a unique 18&U international competition between girls from the United States and Great Britain. Set up by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation, Nancy Jeffett and Mary Hardwick Hare, the event commemorates the achievements of Maureen “Little Mo” Connolly, and encourages the development of tennis among girls in both nations.

Each nation fields a team of four or five players to compete in eight singles and four doubles matches over two days, and during its 35 years, the event has featured the likes of Pam Shriver, Zina Garrison, Lisa Raymond, Jo Durie and Sue Barker.
