Serena continues outperforming and Tita Torró is out
The current Mutua Madrid Open champion obtained a clear win against Lourdes Domínguez, meanwhile the Spaniard, Tita Torró, was close to advancing to the third round of the tournament but finally lost to French player, Marion Bartoli in the third set after an entertaining game.
World number 1, Serena Williams, is in the third round of the 2013 Mutua Madrid Open. One year after her success in the Caja Mágica, the American still has what it takes to get to the final stages. Today, she came back in the second round against the Spaniard, Lourdes Domínguez winning 6-2, 7-5.
The current tournament champion dominated in the first set without much effort and improved in the second. Serena was 6-2, 2-0 up, but Domínguez broke her serve and managed to equal the scores. Dominguez had some good play during the match but Serena Williams winning 6-5 and a last effort with a crucial break was too much to come back. Her next rival will be the winner of the clash between the Russian Maria Kirilenko and French player Kristina Mladenovic.
The first women’s game of the day saw Tita Torró’s departure from the women’s singles, although she did play well against 14th favourite Marion Bartoli, forcing all three sets to be played. Read More
