Mexico beach volleyball star Mayra Garcia has revealed that playing at a third Olympic Games in London this summer would be “beyond belief.”
In the latest feature for the FIVB’s Road to London website, Garcia has outlined how she hopes to call time on her career in the Great British capital alongside partner Bibiana Candelas.
“We want to represent Mexico again at the Olympic Games, and for me to be able to do it three times would be beyond belief,” 39-year-old Garcia admitted. “I honestly can’t see me continuing to play professionally after London 2012, so that is where my life is at right now. It’s been an unbelievable time of nearly 12 years and I don’t want it to end before London.”
The duo currently sits outside the Olympic Qualification Ranking but could qualify through the NORCECA Women’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup if they are chosen as a team by the Mexico Volleyball Federation. That tournament is set to take place in Mexico from June 21 to 23.
