For the third consecutive year, the ANZ Championship Grand Final will be
played before a capacity crowd. Tickets for Sunday's season-decider for
the world's best netball league sold out this morning in under 20
minutes.
The Grand Final will be contested between the unbeaten Mission
Queensland Firebirds and newly crowned number one New Zealand side, the
LG Mystics, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) this
Sunday 22 May.
ANZ Championship General Manager Anthony Everard said, "This is a great
result for the league and for netball.
"We're thrilled that a capacity crowd will witness the crowning of our
fourth new Champion in Brisbane this weekend.
"In planning for the Grand Final, we were very conscious that we had a
small venue and that demand was likely to exceed supply", Everard
explained.
"We've worked hard with the Firebirds and all stakeholders to maximise
the number of tickets available to the general public, and we're
delighted that we were able to make over 75% of tickets available to
netball fans".
Through the introduction of a retractable stand, TTNL have extended the
venue's capacity for the Grand Final match to 3,531.
The Firebirds' 750 season ticket holders were given a 24 hour
preferential purchase opportunity prior to general public tickets going
on sale at 9am AEST this morning. They were able to purchase up to two
tickets per membership.
The balance of tickets went on sale this morning, officially selling out
in just under 20 minutes.
The Grand Final host city is determined by the winner of the Major
Semi-Final. The competition's previous three Grand Finals have been
held in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
