Brazil pairs set to take stage in Continental Cup

Brazilian female teams Camila Bertozzi/Isabela Maio and Livia Mendonca/Thais Ferreira are set to represent their country in the semifinal round of CSV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup this weekend in Guatape, Colombia.

The teams will play against tandems from hosts Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela with the fourth best placed countries qualifying for the competition´s final round next year.

With 10 teams in the dispute, each duo will play eight matches, one against each rival. Each win is worth two points while the defeated team adds one. At the end of the scheduled 40 matches, the four countries with the most points will qualify.

Brazil’s rivals in Guatape will be Ana Gallay/Virginia Zonta and Luciana Forguez/Gabriela Albano, representing Argentina, Yuli Salamanca/Sara Fraija and Claudia Galindo/Andrea Galindo, defending Colombia, Karina Cardozo/Mari Nieto and Lucia Guigou/Fabiana Gomez, playing for Uruguay, and Karelys Mosquera/Norisbeth Agudo and Vera Orquidea/Frankelina Rodriguez, for Venezuela.

Debuting on the international stage will be Thais Ferreira, a 20 year old Brazilian player, who finished second on the country´s U-21 National Tour this season.

“I am really excited and confident that we have what it takes to defend Brazil well, not only Livia and I, but also Camila and Isabela. It will be a new experience in my career and I hope I can learn several things to help my improvement,” Thais said.
