Bosetti named MVP of FIVB Volleyball Women's Junior World Championship Peru 2011

Italy’s Caterina Bosetti was named the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship Peru 2011 Most Valuable Player as she helped Italy to capture their first-ever title in the event with a 21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 victory over Brazil Sunday evening at Eduardo Dibos Gymnasium in Lima, Peru.

“I am so excited,” Bosetti said after being presented both honors in the awards presentation. “This is fantastic and special to me.”

Bosetti also collected the Best Spiker award for the top attack percent among all players. She scored 20 points during the championship match and finished the tournament with 103 points (93 spikes, nine blocks, two aces) while converting a tournament-leading 42.3 percent of her attack opportunities. In addition, Bosetti ranked third in Best Receiver with a 41.8 efficiency percent on 170 total chances.

“We have a big team, we are the big tem,” Bosetti said after the victory over Brazil, which had defeated the gold-medalists on the first day of the tournament on July 22. “After we lost to Brazil, we increased our level of play each match to become better.”

In other awards, Lise Van Hecke of Belgium pulled in both Best Scorer and Best Server awards. She totaled 203 points in the tournament (164 spikes, 16 blocks, 23 serves), or 50 more points over the course of the eight-match tournament than her next closest competition. Van Hecke had the top three individual match scoring performance of the tournament with 40 points against Poland on July 24, 37 points versus Korea on July 23 and 30 points versus Slovakia on July 28. As part of her scoring, she averaged 0.77 service aces per set with 23 aces on 112 service attempts.

China’s Zhou Yang was named the Best Blocker of the tournament after averaging 1.15 blocks per set, or 31 blocks over the course of the eight matches. Her teammate Di Yao earned Best Setter by holding a 30.22 efficiency on her 546 total set attempts and 174 running sets.

Slovakia’s Lucia Nikmonova was awarded the Best Receiver award with a 43.05 efficiency percent on 151 total attempts. The United States’ Natalie Hagglund was honored as the Best Libero with a 56.99 success percent on 365 total attempts. She averaged 4.90 digs per set for second-best in the tournament.
