PRE-GAME, Simone McKinnis sensed something just wasn’t quite right with her Melbourne Vixens players.
The alarm bells started ringing as she watched her players prepare deep in the bowels of Melbourne’s Hisense Arena for their showdown against the Mission Queensland Firebirds.
“I said to one of the assistants (coaches) `they’re pretty quiet’,” McKinnis said.
Unfortunately, her hunch proved correct as the Vixens crashed to a 57-46 defeat to a charged up Firebirds, their worst loss since round 12, 2011 and the fifth time they’ve lost by 10 goals or more against the Firebirds.
“It did seem a bit flat right from the word go. So that’s something, as a group, we’ve got to talk about. We certainly didn’t hit the court ready to go and we really didn’t get into it from the word go.
