The Williams Sisters took the first set on a tie breaker then broke serve early in the second set. Stosur/Stubbs saved match point at 5-3 down. Not formidable doubles play by either pair, but the match was full of humour and delight for the full centre court crowd.

In true Aussie style Stubbs/Stosur never gave up, they fought for every point, Serena sending down a serve of 122 mph, the fastest serve of the match. Venus and Serena 5-4 up in the second set, Stubbs/Stosur saved another match point, before Serena served the championship point the set ending in 6-4.

Anna-Lena Groenefeld partnered Mark Knowles to take the mixed doubles title at The Championships.
