WEEKLY ICENETWORK.COM “WORLD FIGURE SKATER RANKINGS” RELEASED


 

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Dec. 3, 2007) – Japan’s NHK Trophy, which took place last weekend in Sendai, Japan, provided several skaters with the necessary points to jump ahead in this week’s icenetwork.com World Figure Skater Rankings.

Ladies

Six of the ladies top 10 changed position this week, with Carolina Kostner jumping four positions into fifth place after her gold-medal finish at the NHK Trophy. Kostner’s move represents the largest shift in position in this week’s standings. Sarah Meier jumped two spots to the No. 8 position after her silver-medal-winning performance at the NHK Trophy. Japan’s Nana Takeda made her debut in the rankings at No. 17 thanks to the bronze medal she brought home from the NHK Trophy.

Pairs

The biggest move this week in pairs was made by Tatiana Volosozhar and Stanislav Morozov from the Ukraine. The pair finished fourth at the NHK Trophy, moving them up from last week’s 10th position to seventh this week. Americans Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker moved up into the top five after winning silver at the NHK Trophy.

Ice Dancing

This week’s rankings brings two teams back into the top 20. Kristin Fraser and Igor Lukanin from Azerbaijan made their debut in the top 20, at No.. 20, the week of Nov. 19. Following their fifth-place finish at the NHK Trophy, the team is back, this time in the 17th spot. Americans Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre also fought their way back into the top 20 after a two-week absence. Their sixth-place finish at the NHK Trophy enabled the them to assume the No. 20 spot. NHK Trophy gold-medalwinners Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder of France moved up one position to No. 2. Grethe Grunberg and Kristian Rand from Estonia and Anna Zadorozhniuk and Sergei Verbillo from the Ukraine were knocked out the top 20.

A skater or team’s ranking is determined by the total points accumulated since the 2005-06 season. This points-based system takes into account both national and international competitions. Skaters not competing in the 2007-08 season will not be considered for the rankings. More information about the criteria for ranking can be found on icenetwork.com.
