Colorado Springs, Colo. (Dec. 10, 2007) – The 2007 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final, which took place last weekend in Gdansk, Poland, served as the catalyst for several skaters’ upward movement in this week’s icenetwork.com World Figure Skater Rankings.
American Mirai Nagasu saw this week’s largest jump after winning gold at the JGP Final. Nagasu sat in 19th position in the Dec. 3 rankings, but her gold-medal win launched her six spots into this week’s 13th position. Switzerland’s Sarah Meier jumped a position to seventh after winning her fourth consecutive gold at the Swiss Championships, which took place last weekend in Winterthur, Switzerland.
Russia’s Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov jumped one position to seventh after their gold-medal finish in Poland. Teammates Ksenia Krasilnikova and Konstantin Bezmaternikh also moved up a position after their silver-medal win in Poland to put them in 11th. Americans Jessica Rose Paetsch and Jon Nuss saw a two-spot jump to 18th after finishing fourth at the JGP Final.
The Russian team of Maria Monko and Ilia Tkachenko make their debut in the top 20 this week, at No. 15, after winning gold at the JGP Final. Canadians Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier return to the top 20 after a five-week absence. Their fourth-place finish at the JGP Final moved them into the 19th spot. Americans Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates took home bronze from the JGP Final. This feat bumped them two spots into the No. 10 position. Americans Madison Hubbell and Keiffer Hubbell and Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre both fell out of the top 20.
A skater or team’s ranking is determined by the total points accumulated since the 2005-06 season. This points-based system takes into account both national and international competitions. Skaters not competing in the 2007-08 season will not be considered for the rankings. More information about the criteria for ranking can be found on icenetwork.com. The icenetwork.com World Figure Skater Rankings will be updated on icenetwork.com each Monday.
