Victorian Fury claim third consecutive New Idea ANL Grand Final

Victorian Fury 54 def. Netball NSW Waratahs 47

The Victorian Fury put on an impressive display of netball today to defeat minor premiers the Netball NSW Waratahs in the New Idea ANL Grand Final, 54 – 47.

The Fury will add the 2010 title to their 2008 and 2009 wins, an impressive three consecutive titles since the ANL was introduced in 2008.

A confident Waratahs team took the first quarter but the Fury fought back to be five goals up at half-time and were never headed from that point. In a physical match, both teams lost players to injury with Waratah’s Jessica Mansell going off with an ankle injury and the Fury’s wing attack Christie Barnes with a knee injury.

Outstanding shooting from both teams was a highlight of the match, the Waratahs shooting at 90% and the Fury at 87%.

In the bronze medal match, the AIS defeated Queensland Fusion 52 – 45.

At the conclusion of the match two All Australia umpire badges were awarded to Jemma Carlton (NSW) and Qalo Sukabula (VIC).  The AA is the highest umpiring badge in  Australia.
