May 20, 2011 – Brazil’s three-time FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix winning setter Fernanda Venturini has announced that she is returning to volleyball for the first time in three years and will play for Brazilian champions Unilever, coached by husband and coach of the Brazil men’s team Benardo Rezende.
The 40-year old last played for Spanish club Murcia, helping them to the national title in 2007 and although she trained with Brazil’s Rexona-Ades as a precautionary measure in 2009, she never needed to fill in for the side.
However she will now step out for her husband’s club alongside a number of Brazilian stars including Sheila, Mari, Natalia, Fabi and Waleskinha.
As well as winning three World Grand Prix’s in 1994, 1996 and 2004, Venturini also won bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and silver at the 1994 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Brazil.
