VANDERBEEK AND JANYK IN TOP FIVE AS DOWNHILL TRAINING GETS UNDERWAY IN LAKE LOUISE

Impressive start for Canadians before Bombardier Lake Louise DH

LAKE LOUISE, AB (November 28th, 2007) –

VanderBeek, who was on the podium in the Super G last season in Lake Louise, finished fourth in a time of one minute 52.22 seconds. She was followed by Britt Janyk (Whistler, BC) who set a good pace for the day while wearing bib #1, finishing fifth in 1:52.38s.

“My confidence is increasing right now,” VanderBeek said. “I really want the consistency this year and that is something I am working towards. There are still a lot of things I can clean up and I am working hard to get it done.”

American Julia Mancuso won in 1:51.25 followed by Austrians Elisabeth Goergl and Maria Holaus, two of a total of seven Austrians ending the day in the Top 10.

“It was the first training run so I was just feeling out the course and feeling out the long skis again,” said Janyk, who won the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships Downhill in 2006.

“Our goal as a team was definitely to come out strong right from the first training run. We know this hill and we have skied it a lot. We’ve got those first run jitters out of the way and feel confident that we can figure things out,” added Janyk.

Danielle Poleschuk (Calgary, AB) was able to cross the finish line in 35th place while Sherry Lawrence (Calgary, AB) was 43rd. Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) did not finish.

The second training run is tentatively scheduled to start tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with a final decision on the start time to be made after tonight’s Team Captain’s meeting. Catch coverage of the Bombardier Lake Louise Women’s DH on CBC’s Pontiac Alpine Ski Series Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
