Maya Moore scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds as the US set up a quarter-final clash with Czech Republic on Friday.
The first quarter was a tight affair with the USA leading by just three with 20 seconds remaining before Italee Lucas poured in five points in 17 seconds to provide some breathing space.
Hosts Slovakia started the second period well and reduced the deficit to three, but USA responded with six unanswered points of their own and finished the quarter with a comfortable 15-point lead.
The lead was stretched to 19 early in the third and it appeared the Europeans may get steamrollered, but steady performances from Lucia Krc Turbova with 12 points and Regina Palusna, who scored 21, kept the score respectable.
A low scoring final session saw Slovakia score just six points to the Americans’ 13, but they also progress to the quarter-finals as group runners-up and will face Sweden.
Fourth is no good enough
