USA Defeats the Netherlands 8-7 On Second Day Of Dutch Trophy

The USA Women's Senior National Team rebounded from a loss to Hungary yesterday to defeat the Netherlands earlier today 8-7. The meeting was the first for the two squads since they met in the Gold Medal match of the 2008 Olympic Games. Next up for Team USA will be a game against Canada tomorrow to close out competition in the Netherlands. 

The match started off even as both teams were tied 2-2 after the first quarter thanks to goals by Elsie Windes and Jessica Steffens. In the second quarter the Netherlands moved ahead outscoring the United States 3-2 to take a 5-4 advantage at halftime despite scores from Brenda Villa and Lauren Wenger.

In the third quarter Team USA fought back to tie the score by holding the Netherlands to just one score and adding tallies from Wenger and Heather Petri to make it a 6-6 game going to the fourth. In the final quarter the USA defense was there again holding the Dutch to just one score as Kami Craig found the net and Wenger added her third goal of the day to give the United States the 8-7 victory.

Betsey Armstrong was solid in net halting 13 shots. Team USA went 2/4 on player advantages while the Netherlands struggled at 2/7.
