UNDER 18 SQUAD SELECTED FOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The England Under 18 Girls Squad has been selected for the third EuroHockey Youth Nations Championships which will take place in Edinburgh between 9 and 14 July.

England Under 18 Girls have had a successful year so far with a silver medal in the Four Nations Invitational Tournament in Barcelona and test series wins over Ireland in Dublin and Germany in Cologne. Drawn in Pool B, they will begin their European campaign against Spain on 9 July with Germany and Scotland following on the 10 and 11 July respectively. England beat Spain 2-0 at Easter in the Four Nations Invitational tournament and have had 4-0, 1-0 and 5-3 wins over Germany so far this year. The squad of 18 is an experienced one at this level with five players having played in the GB Youth team which won gold at the Australian Youth Festival in January this year. Head Coach Sue Chandler said "The quality of the four performances in Barcelona was most encouraging and leaves us looking forward to the European Championships with genuine optimism." The girls came fifth in the last tournament which was held in Poland in 2005.

squads will need to secure a top two finish in their pool matches in order to have a chance of winning a medal when the classification games take place between 13-14 July.
