Two More Gold Medals at the USA Junior Olympic Girls' Volleyball Championships



COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 3, 2007)
By the end of the event, 19 different brackets will reveal division champions in seven age groups (12-18). The Open Division (14-18) is the highest level, followed by the National Division and the American Division (12-18).
The 13 National division title went to Borinquen Coqui 13-1 F (San Juan, Puerto Rico) in a 25-21, 25-22 decision over SunshineDiggers 13-1 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.). The squad dominated the field from the start of the event, making it to the top of the podium without dropping a single set. The road to a flawless championship was paved with a quarterfinal victory over Asics Munciana Meerkat (Muncie, Ind.) and a semifinal defeat of Asics MAVS 13-1 (Overland Park, Kan.). The SunshineDiggers advanced to the final round with wins over ClubOne 13 Gold (Greeley, Colo.) in the quarterfinals and Asics KIVA 13 Red (Louisville, Ky.) in the semifinals.
En route to the 13 American title, MAVA 13 Elite (Louisville, Ky.) went undefeated in the event, dropping just three sets in four days. In the championship match, MAVA 13 Elite sealed a 25-16, 25-20 victory over Celtic Force 13 Green (Palos Heights, Ill.). Before reaching the title match, the Kentucky team dismissed A5 13 Bill (Atlanta, Ga.) in the quarterfinals, followed by a three-game semifinal victory over Stellar 13-1 (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Celtic Force 13 Green reached the finals after defeating St. Louis CYC 13 D&S (St. Louis, Mo.) in the quarterfinals and Encinitas 13-Peter (Encinitas, Calif.) in the semifinals.
With the 13 American title, the Pioneer Region boasts its second gold medal squad of the tournament as Asics KIVA 14 Red clinched the 14 Open title on Monday. Borinquen Coqui 13-1 F landed the first title of the event for Puerto Rico.
The 15-year-old age group bracket will finish on Wednesday, July 4. The 15 American championship is set for 1 p.m. CDT, followed by the 15 National title at 3 p.m. CDT and the 15 Open championship at 5 p.m. CDT.
The 18-year-old division crowns its champions on Friday, July 6. The 18 American division championship is at 3 p.m. CDT, followed by the 18 National division at 5 p.m. CDT and the 18 Open championship at 7 p.m. CDT. The 16-year-old division concludes on Saturday, July 7.
The 16 American division title will be settled at 3 p.m. CDT, followed by the 16 National division at 5 p.m. CDT and the 16 Open championship at 7 p.m. CDT.
The 17-year old division championships fall on Sunday, July 8. The 17 American division title will be contested at noon CDT, followed by the 17 National division championship at 2 p.m. CDT and the 17 Open championship at 4 p.m. CDT.
