BT Paralympic World Cup Swimming Monday May 31st
GB swimmers dominated the BT Paralympics World Cup at the Manchester Aquatic Centre, Oxford Road, winning all but two of the scheduled races. The event saw the GB trio of Ellie Simmonds, Nyree Lewis and Charlotte Lewis breaking World Records.
Ellie Simmonds (MBE) was first off in the SM6 200m Individual Medley. She lined up against tough opposition in the form of fellow Brit Natalie Jones and Germany’s Verena Schott. Jones had the best start and led until half way with Ellie in third but she upped her pace, gradually catching Jones, and pulling away in the Freestyle leg to finish in 3.11.06. Ellie demolished the world record she set last autumn in Iceland by 0.76sec. Jones finished second in 3:13.10 and Schott third in 3:17.18. (Remarkably Simmonds later also set a new personal best in the 100m breaststroke an event she hasn’t competed in for a few years.)Read More
