Argentina started strongly in the final of the five test matches being played in Salta and in just the second minute they broke through and with a player free in the D it looked dangerous but the shot was wide. A Minute later Argentina’s Guller was also left free in the D but her shot was well saved by Walker.

Argentina looked strong, but Great Britain tried to keep possession and in the 12th minute a good opportunity came from a Clewlow free hit at the top left of D but the deflection was wide. Great Britain struggled to gain control of the game and gave Argentina their first set piece chance in the 21st from a penalty corner which they converted in the second phase when local Salta girl Aguirre swept it home after a first shot save from Walker.

GB didn’t get a chance to reply till the 28th minute when a great ball in from Richardson at the top of the D was again deflected wide.

The start of the second half saw an invigorated British team who came out strongly. Their first opportunity came just four minutes in when a great break from Rogers led to a pass to Jo Ellis (Hightown) who was past the keeper for a reverse push in, but the ball wasn’t quite hard enough and the Argentinean defence picked it off the line.

GB increased the tempo and it looked like just a matter of time before they would score. They waited till the 60th minute to equalise and the goal finally came from a great cross from Panter which Jo Ellis touched in. It was then end to end hockey and with penalty corners for both teams it seemed unlikely to stay at 1 - 1. With ten seconds to go, Argentina won a corner and despite the GB defence saving the first penalty, a second was awarded and it was duly converted again by Guller and the game ended 2 - 1 to the home team.

This game completed the five match series which Argentina won 3 - 1 with 1 draw.

Head Coach Danny Kerry said “this was a game of two halves, all Argentina in the first half and a strong GB performance in the second. The team are bitterly disappointed to lose the game with the last hit of the match, however that experience will stand us in good stead for the future”
