England Netball has announced The Co-operative as official sponsor of the International Netball Series, England v Jamaica – The Rematch, taking place in London, Coventry and Nottingham in February.
The Co-operative has a history of sponsorship with England Netball, headlining the Malawi International Series in 2008 and is the current title sponsor for the Netball Superleague.
Liz Matkin, Head of sponsorship at The Co-operative, said: “The Co-operative has built a tight relationship with netball over the last two years so sponsorship of the International Netball Series was a natural progression.
“The International Netball Series is an important competition and the England team will be pulling out all the stops to demonstrate desire, passion, energy and great skills against Jamaica, hoping to prove they are the ones to watch in 2009.”
Since joining forces with England Netball, The Co-operative has proactively promoted the sport through a number of campaigns, aiming to encourage more people to get involved with the sport and enjoy its health benefits.
In August last year The Co-operative teamed up with England’s goalkeeper, Eboni Beckford-Chambers in a bid to get netball recognised as an Olympic sport. To date, more than 600,000 people have signed to give support, including Cherie Blair.
The Co-operative’s most recent initiative is to increase the number of men who watch netball through the ‘Bring a Bloke’ campaign. Men of all ages are being encouraged to attend Netball Superleague games to see for themselves how fast and physical the game is. The campaign has received support from male sporting figures including Salford City Red’s vice captain Robbie Paul and Manchester City defender Nadum Onouha.
Paul Clark, CEO of England Netball is delighted to have The Co-operative on board for such an important competition. He said: “Having a proactive sponsor like The Co-operative has been invaluable for netball. I am extremely hopeful for the International Netball Series and look forward to working with our headline sponsor for future events.”
