TEAMS READY TO TEE-OFF AT THE LEXUS CUP 2007

Perth, Australia, November 28, 2007: The Lexus Cup 2007 is just around the corner and both amateur and professional female golfers are gearing up for a great event.

The final announcement of the selections for Team International and reigning champions Team Asia were made earlier this week and The Vines Resort and Country Club is ready to welcome the top female golfers to compete for the trophy from 7-9th December.

The third edition of the Lexus Cup will tee-off in International territory for the first time and boasts the strongest line-up of players since its inauguration in Singapore 2005. Sanctioned by the Ladies Professional Golf Association for the second year, this partnership places the tournament amongst the best on the calendar and provides a fun and entertaining finale to a long and competitive season on the Tour. Team Captains Annika Sorenstam and Se-Ri Pak will lead the teams of 12 players over the three-day tournament, competing in fourball, foursomes and singles.

Running in conjunction with the Lexus Cup, Women’s Golf Western Australia have launched a new initiative driven by Lexus known as the Pursuit of Glory. Reaching out to amateur female golfers in Western Australia, the premise is to spread the word about women’s golf and give local players the chance to play on the championship course and the winners get some top-tips from a star of Team International.

Involving 224 golf clubs across the state, golf enthusiasts have battled it out in a stableford format to make it to the final 28 teams competing on Thursday 6th December for the title. The winning team will then meet star player Brittany Lincicome in a clinic prior to the Opening Ceremony for the main event.

Brittany joins Team International for the second time and qualified through her 13th placing on the LPGA Official Money List. She also sits high on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings in 16th place and has had a great season on Tour, including a win at the Ginn Open in May and a tied-second finish in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She will spend time with the four winners showing them some tricks of the trade and giving them pointers to help them enjoy their game for years to come.

Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said, “We are thrilled our local golf fans can get up close to their golfing heroes and on a course they too can play.

“Western Australia has some of the best golf courses in the world and we’re certain the Lexus Cup will encourage more people to visit WA to play at our wonderful golf resorts.”

This will be the most high-profile women’s golf event to be staged in Australia. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets and grab this opportunity to witness world class sporting action on their doorstep and support Aussie girl Nikki Campbell in her quest to be part of the winning side this year.
