TeamBath at full strength going into challenging week

Reigning Co-operative Superleague champions TeamBath are at full strength as they go into a period that sees them play three games in a week.

They kick-off the challenging week against Team Northumbria at the University of Bath Sports Training Village at 5.30pm on Saturday (9th January).

TeamBath’s only Superleague contest to date saw them beat Northern Thunder 54-41 in the opening game of the new season on 10th December. A friendly against England followed but a trip to Loughborough Lightning just before Christmas fell victim to the weather.

Defender Gemma Fletcher and shooter Kirsty Delves would both have missed the trip to Leicestershire but both are available to face Team Northumbria.

“Gemma and Kirsty are both big players for us, so it’s great to welcome them back,” said head coach Jess Garland. “We’ll have a full strength team available for Saturday.

“Team Northumbria are quite a gritty team, so we won’t be taking anything for granted against them on Saturday.

“We need to make sure we start better than we did against Northern Thunder,” she added.

On Monday (11th January) TeamBath travel to Hertfordshire to take on Mavericks – the team they beat in last season’s final. Then on Friday 15th January they host Celtic Dragons in a 7.30pm start at the Sports Training Village.

“It’s not a bad thing for us to have three games in such quick succession as it gives us the opportunity to build some momentum,” said Garland.

“We’re really looking forward to it,” she added. “It was a bit stop-start before Christmas, but the players are keen to kick things off in earnest
