Fine weather and a calm sea provided ideal conditions for the Honda Formula-4 Stroke Powerboat Series’ final race weekend of the season on Douglas, Isle of Man on 19/20 September.
There was only one race on the Saturday, when the team finished in 6th place, and 6th position in the Championships.
But it was far from calm after the first race on Sunday, when all- female Team Eclipse, driver Rose Lores and navigator Sara Cureton, finished in second place and took to the podium to the sound of the champagne corks popping.
The second race on Sunday saw them finish in 4th place, after a fiercely fought final race which left Team Purple, driven by Sara’s husband Stuart, getting into trouble on a tight turn and retiring from the race after he was thrown overboard.
At the end of the competition, the girls finished in 5th position overall. Rose explains: “Stuart fully recovered and I’m pleased to report that husband and wife are still on very good terms!
“We had a lovely surprise at the prize giving when not only did we get onto the podium to collect our trophies for the first race of the day, but we were also awarded the prize for the best prepared 150 boat for that weekend.
“We were thrilled to finally make the podium in what was definitely our best race of the Championship and would like to thank our sponsors, Eclipse Marketing, for their support this season.”
