The British Gas Synchronised Swimming team started their World Championships with the team technical event and although they performed well they missed out on their final place.
They took to the water with confidence even though six out of the eight swimmers were making their World Championship debut and they began the routine well.
They showed their improved height out of the water and their fitness carried them through the routine. The team lost some marks after one of the athletes missed one of the arm movements in a key figure but they proved their stamina by finishing the performance well.
“It was great that our lift worked,” Olivia Allison said. “It is great to be performing in this arena because it is like a stage and it is really good to present on.”
“It was a little bit nerve wracking as it was my debut but it is just such an amazing opportunity and it is great to be here,” Asha Randall said.
Lauren Smith added: “We are all really prepared for this because of our training camp in Malta which went really well and got us used to the heat and it was great to get that under out of the way.”
The team will finish off their preparations for their main events the Team Free and the Team Combination which take place later in the week.
