England are lying fourth after the first of two qualifying rounds – and are very well placed to make the championship flight of the top eight nations.
Team captain Jenny Clink said: “We have had a good day and made a really solid base to work on.”
Melissa Reid, from Chevin in Derbyshire, and Rachel Bell, from Ganton in Yorkshire, both scored one under par 71. Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale) shot 73 while Naomi Edwards (Ganton), Jodi Ewart (Catterick) and Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) all returned 74.
The best five scores count on each day and the England total is 363. The leaders after the first round are Spain on 349, followed by Sweden, 357, and Germany, 359. Ireland are fifth on 369; Scotland and France have both scored 371; Wales, Italy and Belgium are tied on 372.
