Singapore, 13 August 2007 – The host nation will be up against Canada, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka and fellow World Netball Championships qualifier Trinidad & Tobago - currently ranked 10th in the world making it the highest ranking team to visit Singapore in recent years.
The Singapore netball team for the 5 Nations Netball Cup 2007 will once again be led by co-Captains Jean Ng and Pearline Chan just as they were a year ago. This is the same team that went on the Samoa/New Zealand Training tour in May earlier this year, where they met world number 6, Samoa.

The 5 Nations Netball Cup is Singapore’s pre-eminent netball event of the year and gives all fans the opportunity to witness world-class competitive netball action in Singapore. It runs over six days with each team playing one another once followed by play-offs on the last day to decide the winners of the tournament.
This will be the Singapore team’s last major competitive outing before they set-off for the World Netball Championships in Auckland in November. Singapore will defend their crown from last year’s 4 Nations Netball Cup triumph but will have to overcome formidable opponents if they are to repeat last year’s achievement.
“The 5 Nations Netball Cup provides an ideal platform for the team to tune up for the World Netball Championships. It is however an integral part of our netball calendar and a prestigious tournament in its own right. We take every one of our opponents very seriously and are grateful that they have graciously accepted our invitation to come to Singapore to participate in it. I am confident that the Singapore team will once again put up a good show in front of our supporters,” said Tan Wee Khim, President of Netball Singapore.
Miss Kate Carpenter, National Head Coach for Netball Singapore says, “The selectors have named the same national team that toured Samoa and New Zealand earlier in the year. While squad players are pushing for team spots, there are some areas of their game that needs to be developed to be competitive at the next level. At this stage of our preparations for both 5 Nations and Worlds we’re looking at players being able to deliver and deliver consistently.”
The 6-day international competition will be held at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall. Spectators can get their tickets from Netball Singapore or from SingPost S.A.Ms.
