SHERRY LAWRENCE VICTORIOUS IN SOUTH AMERICAN CUP DOWNHILL RACE

Photo Credited to Alpine Canada

LA PARVA, CHI (August 29th, 2007) – Sherry Lawrence (Calgary, AB) captured the first place in a South American Cup downhill race earlier today in La Parva, Chile, while team-mates Britt Janyk (Whistler, BC) and Emily Brydon (Fernie, BC) finished respectively 3rd and 4th.

“The conditions were excellent today. The course was very hard and icy. There are two nice jumps of 30-40 feet which challenged the ski racers,” commented Heinzpeter Platter, Head coach of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team Women’s Speed team, after the race.

“The spring training camp held in Whistler greatly benefited the team. Our training progress is close to one month ahead of last season. The group dynamic is excellent,” added Platter.

Races in La Parva continue tomorrow with a second downhill race.

The South American Cup is a FIS-sanctioned race series with similarities to the Nor-Am Cup race circuit.
