Shelley just misses medals as three Brits finish in top-10 at Winterberg World Cup

Britain’s women skeleton sliders produced impressive performances but finished just outside the medals at round four of the Skeleton World Cup in Winterberg, Germany today (Friday).
Shelley Rudman, Britain’s Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games silver medallist, was just five-hundredths of a second away from bronze.
Rudman, who has already captured World Cup gold and silver medals this season, was eighth after the first of two runs but produced a strong second run to put herself in contention for the medals. She ended the day in joint fourth.
Team-mate Donna Creighton produced the performance of her career to date to finish joint sixth, alongside Germany’s Marion Trott, the reigning World Champion and overall winner of the 2008/9 World Cup.
Creighton, who has been producing terrific starts all season, was in third after her first run. Her sixth in Winterberg today was her highest finish yet at a World Cup.
Amy Williams came 10th – her fourth top-10 finish of her 2009/10 World Cup campaign.
Andi Schmid, British Skeleton performance director, said: “We didn’t get on the podium, but we had three athletes in the top-10, which is a great result for the team. It shows we have a consistently good team.”
Gold went to Germany’s Kerstin Szymkowiak.
Later today (Friday) the men return to action, also at Winterberg. Results from that competition to follow, along with the latest world rankings.
