Maria Sharapova will make her triumphant return to tennis this week at the Warsaw open in Poland. The former women’s number one has been plagued by injury to her shoulder which has kept her from the game for nearly 9 months.
She wrote on her website ‘I know it is going to take me a while to get back into the groove of playing tournaments and matches, but I am so excited to be competing again.’ She has seen her ranking fall to number 65 and faces a struggle to reclaim her spot at the top. She must compete with a slew of up and coming tennis talent and the existing dominance of players such as the Williams sisters, Safina and Jancovic.
However for a former Wimbledon champion she should have no problem returning to her winning form.
