Seventeen Players Picked for 2013 U.S. Women's National University Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey today announced that 17 players have been picked for the U.S. Women's National University Team at the 2013 Winter World University Games. The event is scheduled to take place Dec. 10-21, in Trentino, Italy.
The U.S. team is comprised of players from collegiate ice hockey teams affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The final roster will be named in late October.
"We have a tremendously talented group of 17 women on our roster," said Katie Holmgren, USA Hockey's coordinator of women's adult hockey, who will serve as general manager of the 2013 Women's National University Team. "While we were excited to compete for the first time in Erzurum, Turkey, we have a great core group of players and expect to perform well in the tournament this year."
Two players that participated in the 2011 Winter World University Games highlight the roster, including forward Ramey Weaver (Eagle River, Alaska/Robert Morris University), the 2011-12 ACHA Player of the Year, and goaltender Katie Vaughan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn State University). Additionally, several ACHA award winners were also selected, including forwards Cassie Catlow (Saundertown, R.I./University of Rhode Island), the reigning ACHA Division I Player of the Year, Alisha DiFilippo (Hope, R.I./University of Rhode Island, a Second-Team All-American pick, and Kristin Griebe (Clinton Township, Mich./University of Michigan), a First-Team All-American.
