SEASON’S FINAL ICENETWORK.COM “WORLD FIGURE SKATER RANKINGS” PRESENTED BY KOHLS RELEASED

LADIES
Asada followed her gold medal at last month’s Four Continents Figure Skating Championships with gold at the World Championships. Asada trailed Italy’s Carolina Kostner after the short program and fell on the opening jump of her free skate, a triple Axel, but she recovered nicely to finish second in that segment and win the gold. Korea’s Yu-Na Kim won gold at both of her Grand Prix assignments and the Grand Prix Final, and she finishes the year at No. 2, while Kostner, whose season was highlighted by her second straight European championship and a World silver medal, finished third. Despite withdrawing from the 2008 World Championships, Japan’s Miki Ando finished No. 4, with American Kimmie Meissner rounding out the top five.

PAIRS
The World Championships had little effect on the rankings of the top five pairs teams. Savchenko and Szolkowy retained the No. 1 position after earning their first World title. They finished ahead of silver medalists Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang of China, who occupy the No. 2 in the rankings. The fifth-place finish for China’s Qing Pang and Jian Tong was not enough to move them out of the No. 3 spot. Canada’s Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison took the bronze medal in Sweden and strengthened their hold on the No. 4 position. The only movement within the top five came from Russia’s Yuko Kawaguchi and Alexander Smirnov, who moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 following their fourth-place finish at Worlds
