Sally Fitzgibbons claims her third ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series victory of 2008 to extend her ratings lead

Wave selection proved the key in the punchy one-metre waves as the lightweight natural footer went from strength to strength in the one-sided affair.

Fitzgibbons was the superior surfer all day and finalised an impressive campaign with a heat total of 14.43 to Enever’s total tally 5.04 in the 30-minute final.

The 18 year-old set-up the win with her opening two rides before going on to post a heat high ride of 7.60 with just minutes remaining to extend her lead.

“I’m really happy to get the win today after being second in the last two finals to Laura and also to win my second Brothers Neilsen event is a great achievement for me,” said Fitzgibbons.

The result was Fitzgibbons third win of the season on the ASP Australasian Junior Series and has extended her ratings lead over no.2 ranked surfer Enever.

“To be winning the junior ratings and the WQS (World Qualifying Series) ratings at the same time is just a really nice place to be sitting right now,” added an understated Fitzgibbons.

Enever failed to find the form that has seen her defeat Fitzgibbons in the previous two junior finals on the 2008 series to be forced to settle for the runner-up placing.

“It’s been great having the last three finals with Sally but I couldn’t beat her today however I was stoked to make the final,” said Enever.

“It was hard going with the low tide and my waves keep closing out but that’s the way it goes,” added Enever.
