Rising stars secure AIS Scholarships ahead of 2009 WYC
Some of the country’s best young netball talent have snapped up AIS Scholarships in their bid to be part of Australia’s campaign at the 2009 World Youth Championships in the Cook Islands next August.
The lure to be part of Australia’s 21/U team that will take on emerging stars from around the world tempted 13 players to head to Canberra next year, including former Melbourne Vixens defender, Sharni Layton.
National 21/U coach, Simone McKinnis said many players were keen to finetune their skills in a bid to contest selection for higher international honours with the Australian Diamonds.
“A player like Sharni wants to improve her own game but also compete in a World Youth Championships which is a significant career milestone for young players,” she said. “The AIS Scholarship program offers these young players a combination of international exposure and time to focus on individual development.”
