Riesch Leads Vonn by 3 Points in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall standings

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (March 18) – Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) now trails German Maria Riesch by a mere three points in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall standings with just one race remaining in the 2011 season. Vonn finished 13th in slalom Friday, while Riesch was fourth to swing 30 points back to Riesch. Each was one hundredth of a second from placing one position lower. This is the tightest women's overall battle since 2005 when Swede Anja Paerson edged Janica Kostelic of Croatia, also by three points. Tina Maze of Slovenia took the first slalom victory of her career, while Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) was 26th. The overall title will be decided Saturday with giant slalom starting at 5 a.m. ET.
