Following the success of the RFUW’s Super League programme, the RFUW is pleased to announce that a girls Junior Super League (JSL) Under 18s competition will be introduced in May 2008.
Tom Stokes, the RFUW’s Player Development Manager, said: “With the continued success of the Regional Programme, the High Performance Academies (HPAs) and since the inception of the Talent Development Group (TDG) at Under 18s level and the Schools of Rugby at Under 15s, the RFUW now has a robust talent identification and development system in place. The introduction of the JSL will enhance this system at Under 18s level. It will also provide high quality and high intensity competition for identified, talented young players and an opportunity to bring the best players together.”
For 2008, two squads will be selected and will play two matches. Players will be selected from the current Talent Development Group (U18s) and further selection will be made at the Under 18s Regional Tournament (11th May 2008) with recommendations from regional coaches and the RFUW Club and Coach Officers. The JSL will operate alongside the Senior Super League programme.
Stokes added: “The development of Under 18s rugby is a strategic aim for the RFUW and it is envisaged that the competition will, in time, expand and develop to become an integral part of the RFUW competition calendar.”
