An amazing and enthusiastic competition dominated by GIANT Italia Team who has controlled the weather conditions arriving on the Elite Men and Elite Women categories’ podiums. Besides these great results, also the Spanish athlete Ivan Alvarez Gutierrez performed well.
The Open Women was scheduled at 11a.m. and GIANT Italia Team was present at the starting line with Blaza Klemencic, who performed in Lugagnano Val d’Arda after a couple weeks long stop because of physical problems.
From the first lap, the Slovenian biker was behind the leader Eva Lechner, controlling her strongest opponents. At the end of the lap, she was in second position followed by the U23 Cross Country European Champion Natalie Schnitter and by the leader of the ranking Annabella Stropparo.
Lap after lap, the performance of the athlete of GIANT Italia Team progressively consolidated.
During the second lap, Klemencic competed in a group composed by other two Slovenian athletes - Tanija Zakelj and Nina Homovec – but at that moment it began raining and this modified the track and also the performance conditions.
But the places didn’t change a lot and at the last lap Eva Lechner won preceding Tanija Zakelj and the athlete of GIANT Italia Team Blaza Klemencic who defeated his team-mate in the Slovenian National Team Nina Homovec, arriving at the third place (2nd position in the Elite Women category).
“I performed controlling my opponents in the first part of the race. I felt well and I recovered from the three World Cups, because I was very exhausted. I increased my rhythm during the third lap because I’d like to get a position on the podium. The bronze medal satisfied me a lot and I think I could be one of the protagonist of World Cup in Vallnord next Saturday”.
