After an offensive explosion, the Akron Racers snapped their four game losing streak against the Bandits with an 8-4 win Saturday night in Rosemont.

The scoring started early for both teams as Akron’s Taylor Schlopy got the first hit of the night in the form of a home run to deep left field. In the bottom half of the first the Bandits answered with an RBI single by Tammy Williams scoring Emily Allard.

Akron continued the scoring in the second inning adding another run, but the Bandits starter Ellen Renfroe pitched her way out of potential danger with a strike out to end the inning in a bases loaded situation.
Estela Pinon was brought on in relief of Renfroe to start the fourth inning. Renfroe matched her professional career high of three inning pitched. She gave up three earned runs on five hits while striking out three, taking the loss which drops her record to 1-2 on the season.

Akron also made a pitching change in the fourth as lefty, Hannah Campbell came on in relief of starter Alison Owen. Campbell’s appearance in tonight’s game was her second against the Bandits in as many nights.

Campbell pitched back-to-back shut out innings for the Racers in the fourth and fifth before giving up her lone earned run in the bottom of the sixth inning. She left the game after giving up one earned run on four hits, while getting the win for the Racers.

The Racers added a pair of insurance runs in the top on the fifth inning on a two-run RBI double off the bat of Jen Gilbert, which proved to be the winning runs.
With bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the sixth, Bandits head coach Shane Winkler pulled Pinon after two innings of work to bring in Michelle Gascoigne. Gascoigne finished out the game for the Bandits giving up just two hits and no earned runs.

The Bandit bats finally started to come alive late in the game with three of their four runs coming in the last two innings. Alisa Goler and R.T. Cantillo each knocked in a run in the bottom of the sixth and Kristen Butler added a sac fly RBI in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late for the Bandits as they fell to the Racers, 8-4.
