QUEBEC SKI RACERS OPEN PRESIDENT’S CHOICE CANADIAN K2 CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH VICTORIES

VERNON, BC (March 24th, 2008)

Claudia Paquin-Ricard (Quebec City, QC) had to come from behind in the Ladies super combined, finishing the very challenging Gypsy Queen course with a winning two-run combined time of one minute 43.87.

“I won the super combined and giant slalom at the provincial championships so I was expecting to do well today but I didn’t think I was going to win. It feels incredible,” said the 14-year-old Paquin-Richard, who hails from the Mont Ste-Anne Ski Club. Paquin-Richard was in third place after the opening super G run but had the third fastest slalom run, which was good enough to claim the victory by 0.16s.

Tianda Carroll (Jasper, AB) finished in second place with Julia Roth (Toronto, ON) taking third spot.

The President’s Choice Canadian K2 Championships, for ski racers between 13 and 14 years old, continue tomorrow with a Ladies super G.
