Principal Pairs Stamp Authority on Santos Doubles Quarter-Finals
Success in the opening round for the combination of Colombia’s Paula Medina and Yadira Silva in the Women’s Doubles event at the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Brazil Open on the morning of Friday 15th June but later in the day it was defeat.
In their opening contest they had upset the pecking order by beating the host nation’s Ligia Silva and Jessica Yamada, the no.4 seeds (4-11, 5-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-5).
However, in the quarter-finals when faced with the combination of Japan’s Yuki Nonaka and Poland’s Kinga Stefanska, the no.5 seeds, it was the end of the road.
Defeat in four games (11-9, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7) was the end result in a round where in both the Men’s and Women’s Doubles event, matters went as per seeding.
Top Seeds Succeed
In the Women’s Doubles event, Japan’s Ai Fukuhara and Shiho Ono, the no.1 seeds, staved off a spirited challenge presented by American teenagers, Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang (11-4, 7-11, 13-11, 11-4, 4-11, 11-5); as in a similar vein did Singaporean second seeds, Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu when faced with India’s Mouma Das and Poulomi Ghatak.
Likewise, they needed six games to book their place in the semi-finals (6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 11-4).
Hard fought wins for the top two seeds, for the third seeded Korean partnership of Dang Yeseo and Seok Hajung, life was more comfortable in their quarter-final duel.
They won in four straight games (11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 12-10).
