PONTIAC GMC CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS TO INCLUDES WORLD CUP MEDALLISTS

Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships set for Whistler February 6th to 13th

WHISTLER, BC (February 5th, 2008) – The fastest ski racers from across Canada, will be in Whistler, BC from February 6th to 13th, 2008 to showcase the speed events during the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships.

The Men’s and Ladies downhill, preceded by three days of training runs, is scheduled to kick things off February 9th on Franz’s Run at Whistler Mountain. Senior and junior level athletes from across Canada will compete for downhill, super G and super combined national titles followed by Canadian Junior Championships and World Junior Qualification races in super G and super combined.

“This event provides a crucial building block toward our goal of becoming the best ski racing nation in the world. It is only with the contribution of partners like General Motors, who provide the human, technical and financial resources required, that ski races such as the Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships are successful year after year,” said Alpine Canada Alpin Chief Executive Officer Ken Read.

This season’s current Nor-Am Ladies overall points leader Larisa Yurkiw (Owen Sound, ON) and a total of 21 other members of Canada’s alpine ski teams are also scheduled to be racing.

The Pontiac GMC Canadian championships are also a highlight of the Coupe Pontiac GMC Cup, a series for future champions of 40 ski races across four provinces this season that will eventually crown Men’s and Ladies overall winners and award them $5000 each.

The Pontiac GMC Canadian Championships head to eastern Canada to the Quebec City, QC region with technical races from March 20th to March 23rd.
