Playoff finalized field of 16. For the second year in a row, the third-round field of 16 at the ADT Championship was determined by a playoff. After the 32-player field had completed 36 holes on Friday, three players remained tied at 3-over-par 147 with only two spot available. A two-hole, sudden-death playoff between Natalie Gulbis (72-75), Ai Miyazato (75-72), and Annika Sorenstam (74-73) ensued. All three players made par on the par-3, 17th hole and moved to the par-4, 18th. Gulbis and Miyazato landed their approach shots on the back edge of the green, about 25 feet away from the hole; Sorenstam’s landed in a left-front greenside bunker. Sorenstam was unable to get up-and-down, giving Gulbis and Miyazato berths in Saturday’s third round and a fresh chance at walking away with Sunday’s $1 million-dollar paycheck.
