OQTW – Japan and France complete Quarter-Final line-up

(FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament Women) – A stellar performance by Yuka Mamiya of was the highlight of day three as Japan sealed one of the last remaining Quarter-Final places with a win over Puerto Rico while France completed the line-up after strolling past Mali.
Mamiya broke the hearts of Puerto Rico with 29 points and 15 rebounds in a hard fought 79-70 win. Japanese captain Yuko Oga meanwhile had promised to turn pressure into power and she kept her word with 17 points as Japan finished second in Group A to set up a meeting with Czech Republic.
It’s going to be a tough assignment for Japan against the FIBA World Championship silver medallists who topped Group B with a 68-54 success over Argentina in a physical and at times, brutal encounter.
Petra Kulichova continued her good form from the first group game with an outstanding 16 points and 20 rebounds.
The loss means Argentina will have to try and cause an upset against hosts Turkey who were resting having already wrapped up their place with two wins during the first two days.
After easing past Mali 87-33 to top Group D, France will lock horns with Korea who was beaten 83-75 in what was a wonderfully absorbing shootout against Croatia.
That means Croatia will go up against Canada as they bid to make the Olympics for the first time in their history.
