Olympic Champion Gunn-Rita Dahle in Niederdorf next week
Niederdorf, 19th June 2008 – Olympic Champion Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå will arrive in Niederdorf next Monday, 23rd June. For two weeks time the Norwegian wants to prepare herself for the UCI MTB Marathon World Championships in Hochpustertal-Alta Pusteria. “It is an enormous honour for us to host the most successful female mountain biker of all times in Niederdorf”, states chief of OC Kurt Ploner with delight. In the young history of Marathon WCH, Dahle already won three gold medals, namely in Bad Goisern (AUT, 2004), Lillehammer (NOR, 2005) and in Oisans (FRA, 2006). In St. Wendel (GER) she became third in the European Championships in May.
This week she is going to compete in the Cross Country WCH in Val di Sole (Italy). Afterwards she is directly going to travel to Niederdorf „in order to become acquainted with the racetrack and to test it, especially as far as the difficult climbs are concerned”, as she says. „I have never participated in the Dolomiti Superbike so far, but I have heard many good things about it: the organization, the course, the landscape and the people are wonderful! I am really curious about it“. For Dahle, who this year won the World Cup Race in Madrid „unexpectedly“, as she says, the WCH represent an important milestone towards the Olympic Games in Peking. „As I haven’t reached the shape I had before my virus disease yet, every race is important for me.” That is to say that last year the exceptional athlete had to fight against a persistent virus, for which reason she concluded her season at an early stage.
