The Old Dunstonian Ladies rugby team enjoyed a top quality training session on Wednesday 31 October at their ground in Langley Park, Beckenham, with an extra special guest coach. The England Women’s Head Coach, Gary Street, came down for their regular Wednesday evening session to give the ladies his expert tips and advice.
For the Old Dunstonian Ladies, enjoying their first season in the leagues this year in South East East 3, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this high level standard of coaching.
Captain Louise Dennis said: “Many of the ladies present at the session have only been playing rugby for one season so to learn from the top guy in English women’s rugby was amazing. It was a brilliant session and not only has it given us a boost in our rugby skills but increased everyone’s enthusiasm for the team and the sport.”
The offer from Street to take the training session for the Old Dunstonian Ladies rugby team came about because Street previously coached Old Dunstonian captain Dennis at the University of Birmingham.
She added: “It was great to see Gary again and I am so grateful that he was able to come down and take the session. He’s always been a great coach and I really have him to thank for getting me so interested in rugby over ten years ago when I first started playing at University.”
The Old Dunstonian Ladies will hope their training with the England coach will help them continue their unbeaten run so far in the league, winning two games and drawing one. The ladies next take on East Grinstead away on Sunday 11 November.
