NSW claims third consecutive DealsDirect.com.au 21/U National title

NSW has claimed its third consecutive National title with a 11-goal victory over South Australia in Queensland today.

Led by NSW Swifts players Amy Wild and Ashleigh Brazill, NSW lifted their intensity in the final term to run away with the game and record a 50-39 victory.

Earlier in the day, Victoria won the bronze medal with a 59-42 victory against home favourites Queensland. The bronze medal will be some compensation for the Victorians, who were title favourites before being knocked-out yesterday by fourth placed South Australia.

The Australian Capital Territory finished the competition in fifth place defeating Western Australia by one goal, 59-42, this morning. In a thrilling comeback the nation’s capital just got over the line in the dying moments of the match.

NSW and Queensland defenders April Letton and Chanel Gomes were named joint San Remo Most Valuable Player of the Championships. Both defenders were 2010 AIS scholarship holders and were a major factor in the success of their states in the tournament.

The 2011 21/U Australian squad was also announced at the close of the Championships.
