Malaysian squash star Nicol David has completed her most successful year to date – retaining her Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Open title for the third successive year in November to bring her 2008 WISPA World Tour title total to ten, and extend her unbeaten Tour record since October 2007 to 53 matches!
Furthermore, Nicol celebrated her second full calendar year as world number one in the December Women's World Squash Rankings – bringing her reign at the top of women’s squash to 32 months.
Nicol David boasts a remarkable record since becoming a valued member of Team Prince in October 2005: The 25-year-old from Penang has reached the finals in 30 of the 32 WISPA World Tour events in which she has competed – and has not lost a single match since adopting the brand’s latest racquet, the Prince O3 Speedport Black, in April!
David’s WISPA title successes in 2008 began with the Apawamis Open in New York in February, and continued with the KL Open on home soil in Malaysia, the British Open in England, Seoul Open in Korea, Malaysian Open, Singapore Masters, Dutch Open, World Open in England, Qatar Classic and the Hong Kong Open.
Away from the Tour, David secured her sixth successive biennial Asian Championship crown in February – after winning the first in July 1998 when aged just 14 - and this month led Malaysia to an unexpected bronze medal in the Women’s World Team Championship in Cairo!
“This has been the best year ever for me in my squash career,” said Nicol David from her home in Penang. “Everything that was put into my training and planning throughout the year has paid off and it's so satisfying seeing the end result of it.
“A lot of learning and experiences along the way throughout the year has made every moment on and off the squash court a big step up for me.
“The successes come with support like I get from Prince, which has played a huge part in my performance too,” added David. “The Speedport Black is a true racquet and it feels right always!
“I’m already looking forward to 2009 together with Prince - and to keeping up the momentum from this year.”
Susi Capell, Product & Marketing Manager at Prince Sports Europe, was delighted with Nicol David's success: "Nicol has led a great squash year for Prince, with fellow leading players James Willstrop, Jenny Duncalf, John White, Rebecca Chiu, Laurens Jan Anjema, Lauren Briggs and Annie Au also claiming Tour title triumphs with our pioneering O3 technology. We look forward even greater success in 2009."
